Restorative Justice Program

Solomon Islands

After the waves of social unrest hit the Solomon Islands, ordinary people lost faith in the justice system. Following a request to the Melanesia Peace Foundation of PNG - an organisation that has a track record working with people in Bougainville alongside former militants and prisoners - the staff of SIDT undertook intensive peace and conflict training. Since that training, there has been high demand for Peace and Conflict Resolution. Training is now being conducted twice weekly for prisoners, new recruits of the reformed Royal Solomon Islands Police, churches, chiefs, youth and women’s groups, community leaders and NGOs.

Youth and Mental Health (TingTing Helti)

In March 2008 the TingTing Helti project launched  a Youth Situational Analysis report. The project worked with three urban communities in Honiara. Various consultations have been held with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Youth and other stakeholders on how to address some of the issues highlighted in the report. A planned forum is organized for August in Honiara with the Youths in the three urban centres in Honiara.

Promotional activities through sports are arranged with youth football league and also national soccer players.
